Intro to Good Choices

Teaching Children How to Make Their Own Good Choices

Children begin to develop social habits at an early age. At the core of learning the social skills they need to get along with others are the choices they make every day. The Good Choices initiative is designed to help children learn to respect themselves, their friends, teachers, and parents, so they can get along better with others and get a head start in life.

Through the Good Choices booklet, children are introduced to 21 key principles that help shape their behavior and character. These principles include:

Gradeschool children can benefit greatly from learning and following the 21 precepts of the Good Choices initiative, which focuses on personal responsibility, treating others with respect, and making good choices. By taking care of themselves, kids learn how important it is to stay healthy and feel good about themselves. Setting a good example shows kids how their actions can inspire others. Helping out others, especially younger kids, teaches them compassion and responsibility. And by following values like respecting others’ beliefs, keeping promises, and doing their best in everything they try, kids gain the tools to handle challenges and thrive. These precepts give children the guidance they need to grow into strong, positive individuals who make great decisions and help make the world a better place.

The Good Choices initiative helps kids put these lessons into action by encouraging them to embrace these values in their daily lives. They begin to understand how their choices impact not just themselves, but the people around them. By practicing honesty, responsibility, and respect, they see how small actions can lead to big results. Learning to make thoughtful decisions and approach challenges with confidence helps them build strong character, positive relationships, and a successful future.

The Good Choices initiative is based on The Way to Happiness, a non-religious moral code developed by L. Ron Hubbard. Originally designed as a guide for adults, the principles of The Way to Happiness were adapted into the Good Choices program specifically for grade school children, with great success!
